2,345,144 people voted for Catalan independence in a non biding referendum last 9th of November. Spanish government describes Catalan vote as “sterile and useless”. Over 80% of voters chose independence.
More than two million citizens in Catalonia, and abroad, took part in a vote for independence, defying an official ban from the central government and the highest court in Madrid.
6,700 polling stations were open despite the Constitutional Court declared ilegal this public consultation, which was previously approved by 80% of the members in the Catalan parliament.
40,000 volunteers staffed the polling stations since public workers were threatened with prosecution if they took part.
We will analyse this current affair in our next issue in December.
