Scotland will be hosting its first ever Marea Granate meeting this evening. The event, organised by Oficina Precaria Edimburgo, otherwise known as PIE, will take place at the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh to get Scotland’s representation in the most important group of young Spanish emigrants around the world.
Apart from the constitution of Marea Granate Escocia, the focus of the meeting will be on the future of the organisation, and on its formal establishment. The organisers hope to decide on, among other things, the message and logo that will represent Marea Granate. The aim of Marea Granate is to provide support and opportunity to Spaniards living in Scotland.
The first Marea Granate emerged in 2013, and until now has preempted political debates on topics such as healthcare cuts or bureaucrats voting from abroad. The organization’s chosen colour is garnet, which symbolises the passports used by many Spaniards – most of whom are young educated individuals – who seek opportunity and social justice outside of their own country.
